Craig Calhoun, CPA 
As chief financial officer, Craig Calhoun guides the company’s strategic financial direction. His role encompasses oversight of accounting, insurance, risk management, human resources, project management, and investments.

Craig is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over fifteen years of experience in construction finance. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wofford College and a master’s degree in accountancy from Clemson University. Previously, he served as President of the South Carolina Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) and is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Originally from Spartanburg, S.C., Calhoun now resides in Charleston.

Brian D'Amico, CPA
Brian began his career at Elliott Davis, where he spent over 15 years developing experience in the construction sector. During his tenure there, he specialized in auditing and consulting for construction clients, gaining a keen expertise in navigating the complexities of the industry. His deep understanding of financial regulations and best practices equipped him to deliver valuable insights that helped clients optimize their operations and achieve their financial goals.

In 2020, Brian made a pivotal career move, leaving public accounting to join Mashburn Construction as Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he oversees the company’s financial strategy, ensuring sound financial management and driving initiatives that promote growth and sustainability. His leadership is characterized by a collaborative approach, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the finance team and across the organization.

A proud alumnus of Clemson University, Brian earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s in Accounting. His strong educational foundation, combined with extensive industry experience, allows him to navigate complex financial landscapes with confidence.

Justin Herp, CPA
Justin Herp has eight years of experience in public accounting, with the past five of those years focused on federal tax advisory services and tax accounting methods.

Justin is a senior manager in our National Tax Practice, where he helps our customers and Elliott Davis tax professionals resolve complex tax issues.  His role includes evaluating new tax developments and legislative changes to keep our customers and our teams informed.

His subject matter expertise is providing solutions for customers seeking to adopt new tax accounting methods or change their current methods. Through the analysis of their tax accounting methods, Justin helps our customers either take advantage of tax deferral opportunities or mitigate existing tax risk. He is a firm-wide resource on filing Form 3115 to change tax accounting methods.

He has deep experience working with tax accounting methods related to revenue recognition, the proper timing of tax deductions, inventory issues (inventory valuation, UNICAP/section 263A), long-term contract accounting with the percentage of completion method (section 460), and section 174 research and experimental costs.

Steve Reynolds, CPA
Steve Reynolds is the CFO at Eldeco, Inc. and has been there since 2002. He is responsible for accounting, finance, risk management, IT, surety and captive insurance functions, contract review and logistics. He manages a team of 26 with eight direct reports. Prior to the acquisition by Comfort Systems, he was also responsible for human resources, recruiting, safety, surety, and captive insurance programs. He also evaluated Evaluated strategic initiatives (including ESOP conversion and sales opportunities) to maximize shareholder returns.

Prior to Eldeco, he was the CFO at ChanneLinx & Enterprise Computer Systems. Steve graduated from Furman University.

Dr. Jake Smithwick 
Dr. Jake Smithwick is a professor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and also provides consulting and educational services to organizations in construction and facility management. Together with his colleagues at Simplar, Dr. Smithwick has helped hundreds of owners improve performance outcomes across thousands of projects. His industry experience also includes serving six years in the US Air Force Reserve.
